Today's Tangle - Eez

"Eez" is by Judy Burkett CZT and her pattern is HERE at TanglePatterns.

ZENTANGLE PROJECT PACK 8 - DAY 5

I cut my own black Zendala tile out of card stock so I had to draw my own string in pencil and white charcoal pencil. I pretty much copied the "Well" string that was shown near the beginning of Part 1 of the Day 5 video. Because I used metallic gel pens instead of the Moonlight pens, I had to simplify my tangles on account of the broader pen tips. I also omitted the shading and highlights because I thought that the metallic ink might get scratched off. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

You can watch the videos for Day 5 HERE and HERE (there are two of them).

  1. Wow - your PP piece came out so well. Much respect as it's not easy to work with those metallic gels. And with having to draw your own string! You are one dedicated tangler!

I'm playing about in my sketchbook at the moment as I don't have any Moonlight pens, but might get a few at some point as I quite like the look of the way you can shade over them.

    1. Thank you Jem. At least I didn't have to cut out a round black tile. I had cut out a few extras during an earlier project pack and still had them on hand. I'm not sure if there are enough colors that appeal to me in the Moonlight pens to bother buying them.

    2. Oh yes, cutting round tiles - what a nightmare! Sometimes I think about getting a die-cutting machine but it's a big investment - even the small hand wound ones... and it's really only the round tiles that are a problem to cut.

If you can find the Moonlights loose you could just pick a few colours. I really like the look of some of the greys (my comfort zone), but the Yellow Ochre looks lovely and I know you've said before that you like that colour. There's a dark brown and red that also appeals. The brights really don't suit my tastes!

Have you seen the colour chart for them - featuring the new colours. In my opinion some of the better colours weren't included in the Project Pack!

    3. My round tile was cut out by hand with scissors and it's very obvious when looking at the actual tile. But, because I wanted to add my tile to a digital background, I used my graphics program to crop the circle so that the edges look smooth.

I did take a look at the Moonlight colors the other day at JetPens. If I could get them singly, I'd probably get the Yellow Ochre, Blue Green, Bordeaux, Vandyke Brown, Blue Gray and the Green Gray.

    4. So clever to digital smooth out those wobbles! I'd have never known if you hadn't told me!

Those are pretty much the same colours that grab me. Do you not have anywhere local where you can buy them singly? They don't even arrive in Europe till April apparently... and no news of when they hit the UK, but a European friend is going to send me some!

    5. I checked the website for the local craft store and then only have a few individual colors and they all have the larger tip size which is probably the same as the metallic pens in that regard. JetPens is probably the best place to get them but I can't justify the expense at the moment.

    6. Yes, I think it's the small (06) size we want. Maybe in time, when they aren't so new out, they'll be easier to find singly.
