Tangling on Octagon Tiles

The other day I was in the mood for tangling on an octagon tile in a Delft blue style so I browsed Pinterest for inspiration and saw some ceramic tiles with this pretty corner design on them. I decided to try a different 3-D effect this time by adding faux turned down corners.

UPDATE 5/25/22: Here is the step-out for this design:

Today's Tangle - Coracao Flower

"Coracao Flower" is by Ina Sonnenmoser and the pattern is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. The pattern is actually a string or base pattern that is meant to be embellished with other tangles. I had no plan in mind when I drew my tile. I just added designs and tangles as I went along using ones that seemed to suite the spaces that I was filling.

Today's Tangle - Conquest

It may be hard to tell but this tile started out with the basic framework of "Conquest" by Dawn Collins. I ended up adding a lot of extra embellishments to fill in the open spaces. You'll find Dawn's patterns HERE at Pattern-Collections.

Video Tutorial - Luminary Glow

This was another fun lesson by Romi Marks (Tangled Yogi) and it is one of my favorites of her designs that I have tried. You can watch her video HERE on YouTube. I couldn't decide which background I liked the best behind this tile so I'm posting both of them. Which background do you think shows off the design the best?

Video Tutorial - Hemp Variation

Read yesterday's post HERE for more information about the origins of this design. After drawing yesterday's tile, I decided to draw another one.

Video Tutorial - Hemp Variation

Today's tile is the result of watching two YouTube videos. I started out by watching THIS video by The Tireless Tangler. In her video, she mentions that this is a variation of a tangle by Sandy Bartholomew called "Hemp". You'll find the original version of "Hemp" HERE at TanglePatterns and also HERE on Sandy's blog. Adele Bruno also had a hand in this by coming up with a slightly different way of drawing "Hemp" which you can read about HERE on her blog. It is her method that Cindee and Maria Thomas both used to create their strings for drawing this pretty variation. After watching Cindee's video, I went over to the Zentangle YouTube channel and watched THIS Kitchen Table Tangles (KTT 027: Fragments and Reticula) video where Maria draws the variation of "Hemp" that inspired Cindee's video.

Zentangle® Apprentice Project Pack No. A1 - Day 6

I finally got around to trying one of the Apprentice Project Pack No. A1 videos. The Day 6 lesson features a tangle called "Dream Catcher". Mine started out pretty much like in the video but I ended up adding some embellishments. I also drew mine on a standard size square tile instead of a Zendala tile.

You can watch the Day 6 video HERE on the Zentangle YouTube channel. If you're interested, you can buy the project pack HERE.

Video Tutorial - Frost Patterns

For today's tiles, I followed THIS "Frost Patterns" YouTube video by Zenvoyage. I drew the tile below as a rough draft while watching the video. Afterward I drew the tile above with more attention to detail.

The design features the official Zentangle pattern called "Drupe". For more information about "Drupe", read THIS post.

Video Tutorial - Ladybug Love

"Ladybug Love" is a fun tutorial by Romi Marks (Tangledyogi). You can watch her video HERE on YouTube. Be sure to download her PDF template file. I used it to scale my drawing down to fit on a 3.5x3.5" tile instead of a 4.5x.4.5" tile like Romi uses in the video.

I really wanted to add white highlights to my tile but all of my white gel pens gave me trouble drawing over the colored pencil. I had very little success with my Gelly Rolls or my Signo white pen and decided that it wasn't worth the frustration. Luckily I was able to remove the bits that I had added.
