Today's Tangle - Flower Funnel

"Flower Funnel" is by Lisa Jane and her step-out is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. Mimi has a video about this pattern HERE. I drew a variation of one of the variations on the step-out because I really like the Art Deco look of it drawn this way.

Official Zentangle® Pattern - Gust

I haven't blogged about this official tangle called "Gust" before. It took me a while to track down some examples that show what it looks like because there is another tangle with the same name that is by Sandy Bartholomew. You can see an example tile HERE featuring Sandy's version.

I found quite a few examples of the Zentangle version of "Gust" on the Zentangle Mosaic app but pretty much got nothing when I searched Pinterest from my computer. I found one sketchy example HERE on the Alphabee Tangles blog.

There is no published step-out for "Gust" but it's a bit like drawing a bracket shape that has a loop in the middle, "Fescu" on one end and usually at least one aura around it.

Official Zentangle® Pattern - Chillon

I previously blogged about this official Zentangle pattern called "Chillon" HERE.

Until recently, I have had a huge, seemingly endless, pile of new tangle patterns to try but I have worked my way through all of them over the past two years. Until I find some more new ones to try, I thought I would go back through the classic Zentangle patterns and try new things with some of them such as adding color. I might even try some of the ones that don't appeal to me and see if I can learn to like them.

Today's Tangle - Ponytail

"Ponytail" is by Angie Gittles CZT and you'll find the step-out HERE at TanglePatterns. It looks very similar to a tangle called "Spooled" by Cindy Angiel which I blogged about HERE.

Today's Tangle - Quoint

"Quoint" is by Wendy Stieglitz and her pattern is found HERE at Pattern-Collections. The basic pattern is very plain so I added a lot of embellishments to mine.

Today's Tangle - Lola

"Lola" is by Stephanie Jennifer and her step-out is posted on her blog HERE. Melinda Barlow has a video HERE. If the name of this pattern sounds familiar, that's because there is another pattern with the same name by Sandy Hunter. It's posted HERE on Sandy's blog.

Today's Tangle - Lily Bridge

"Lily Bridge" by Erika Kehlet is one of my all-time favorite tangles and the pattern is found HERE. I previously blogged about the tile below HERE and I also blogged about drawing this pattern on a black tile HERE.

Dawn Collins has a video HERE.

UPDATE: The Pattern-Collections website has shut down. Click HERE to view this pattern.

ORIGINAL TILE

The tile above was my first time drawing this pattern and I've always loved it. I drew it way back when I first started tangling so I thought it would be interesting to draw it again using the same colors and paper. It looks to me like my lines are a bit cleaner and neater on the new tile below and my coloring seems to have improved as well.

UPDATED TILE

Today's Tangle - Flyz

Today's tangle is called "Flyz" and it's by Sandra Whalen. You'll find the pattern HERE at Pattern-Collections. I enjoyed drawing this so much that I also drew the tile below.

Today's Tangle - Slipoff

"Slipoff" is by an unknown artist. I saw the step-out HERE on Pinterest. I drew mine a little differently by drawing the "rays" on all four sides of each "flower".

Today's Tangle - SiKiTo

"SiKiTo" is by Simone Menzel CZT and the pattern is found HERE on her blog. Tangle Dream has a video about this tangle HERE. Instead of drawing the scallops free form like in the video, I started with a pencil grid. Each scallop spanned four squares on the grid.

Today's Tangle - Rio

"Rio" is by Cari Sultanik CZT and the step-out is found HERE on her blog. Although my tile turned out exactly like Cari's examples, I drew it by a different method. First I drew the diagonal grid like she did but I really didn't want to have to draw those long wavy lines that you see in step 3 of the step-out. Instead I skipped ahead to step 4 and simply drew arcs in the corners of each square that meet in the center of each side of the square. Looking at the step-out again while typing this, I think that it is possible that's the way that Cari draws it as well and it just looks like she drew long squiggly lines. What do you think the step-out is showing in step 3?

Today's Tangle - 6Heart

"6Heart" is by Wendy Stieglitz and her pattern is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. I embellished mine with some dots and metallic gold gel pen. Rather than using black ink to draw the design, I used a dark blue pen.

Today's Tangle - Flair

This version of "Flair" is by Beth Snoderly. I previously blogged about two other patterns called "Flair" by Deb Myers CZT HERE and Chris Titus HERE. You'll find the step-out for Beth's version HERE at TanglePatterns. I thought it was going to be a little tricky to draw but I quickly got the hang of drawing the zig-zag lines and they flowed out of my pen naturally.

Today's Tangle - Decoo

"Decoo" is by Ria Matheussen CZT and you'll find the step-out HERE on her blog. I added some color to my tile and embellished it with metallic gold dots and graphite auras.

Classic Zentangle® - DooDah & Toodles

I drew this tile for a prompt in the Today's Tangles: Keeping it Classic Facebook group.

These are the tangles that I used:

DooDah - I blogged about "DooDah" HERE. There is some question as to the correct spelling of this tangle. The official step-out calls it "Dooh Dah" (as in Zippity Doo Dah) but it has become generally accepted as being spelled as one word.

Toodles - I blogged about "Toodles" HERE.

Today's Tangle - A-dalfa

I thought for sure that I had blogged before about "A-dalfa" but apparently I haven't. This pattern is by Bunny Wright CZT and her pattern is posted HERE at TanglePatterns.com. I found five videos about this tangle HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Today's Tangle - Base-Basement

I have drawn this pattern before but never blogged about it. You can see my original tile below. This is called "Base-Basement" and it's by Silke Wagner. The pattern is found HERE at Pattern-Collections.com and Dawn Collins has a video HERE. My original tile looks more like the step-out. On today's tile I omitted the squares in the center.

Classic Zentangle® - Hollis, Moon Pie & Tipple

For once I drew a classic Zentangle tile that isn't for a prompt in the Keeping It Classic Facebook group. I saw these two new official tangles called "Hollis" and "Moon Pie" on the Zentangle Mosaic app and really wanted to give them a try. There is no published step-out "Moon Pie" but I found one for "Hollis" HERE on Hanny Nura's Instagram page (click the arrow on the right side of the picture that comes up and the step-out is the fourth one). "Hollis" is the vine-like tangle and "Moon Pie" is the tangle that looks a lot like "Crescent Moon" that has been decorated like a fancy dessert.

Many of the example tiles that I've seen featuring "Hollis" also feature "Moon Pie" because they fit so nicely together, as you can see. It was easy enough to figure out how to draw it just by looking at a few examples. If you look closely at my tile, you will see what happens when two Moon Pies end up too close to each other. I added some "Tipple" to fill the gaps near the bottoms of the "Hollis" stems and embellished everything with a double graphite aura.

UPDATE 11/21/19: The step-out for Hollis has been published HERE in the Zentangle newsletter.
