Today's Tangle - Rayga

"Rayga" is by Anoeska Waardenburg CZT and her step-out is found HERE at TanglePatterns. It took me a couple of tries before I got mine to have the same twisted shape as Anoeska's but I think I finally got it.

I drew today's tile by following the "Zentangle Vol.16" YouTube video by Apple Lim. You can watch her video HERE.

Video Tutorial - Tangle H²O Lilly

This is another "Tangle H²O Lilly" tile from Sandhya Manne's video tutorial. Click HERE to watch the video. I changed some things this time and didn't use "Diva Dance" on this tile. I added some sparkle with a clear glitter pen.

Video Tutorial - Tangle H²O Lilly

"Tangle H²O Lilly" is another wonderful video tutorial by Sandhya Manne. Click HERE to watch her video. Besides "H²O Lilly", which is by Lori Howe, this design also features "Diva Dance", "Printemps" and "Spoken" which are all official Zentangle patterns.

I thought that I had blogged about "H²O Lilly" before but apparently I haven't. You'll find Lori's step-out HERE on flickr. In case you're wondering, I drew this on a pink tile which I cut from card stock.

Today's Tangle - 2-in-5

I drew today's tile on the same size grid as yesterday's but I used a different color ink for each ring of squares. I also used shading to give the tile an interesting dimensional look.

"2-in-5" is by Anita Roby-Lavery CZT and her pattern is posted HERE at TanglePatterns.

Today's Tangle - 2-in-5

"2-in-5" is by Anita Roby-Lavery CZT and her pattern is posted HERE at TanglePatterns. I thought this would make a nice filler pattern so I drew it in a very tiny grid. Because I drew it so small, I was only able to fit dots in the alternating squares instead of circles.

I found this very satisfying to draw because of the repetition and I used several ink colors to keep it interesting. I used Staedtler Triplus fine liner pens. The card stock that I used is very absorbent which caused the pens to bleed in a good way. I like how it made the lines look like I had used a thicker pen tip.

Check back tomorrow when I will be blogging about another tile featuring this pattern with an interesting twist.

Today's Tangle - Zajo

"Zajo" is by Isabel Wallis and her pattern is posted HERE at TanglePatterns. I couldn't seem to draw the same shape that is shown on the step-out so I drew the designs in a way that felt natural to me. Because I drew several "ribbons" of this tangle on my tile it appears to be an all-over pattern.

Video Tutorial - Waybop Around the Bales

"Waybop Around the Bales" is from a YouTube video by Emiko Kaneko CZT. You can watch her video HERE. Today's tile is my second time drawing this design. Check yesterday's post to see my other tile. I used a tan tile and different shade of blue this time. I also used a different metallic gold gel pen for the accents.

Video Tutorial - Waybop Around the Bales

"Waybop Around the Bales" is from a YouTube video by Emiko Kaneko CZT. You can watch her video HERE. I drew today's tile while following the video. Tomorrow I will show you one that I drew afterward in a different color scheme. When I began drawing today's tile, I'd forgotten that Emiko used white gel pen for parts of the design. Obviously that wouldn't show up on white paper so I had to use black ink instead.

Video Tutorial - String Safari 31 by Sandhya Manne

Yesterday I followed another fun tutorial by Sandhya Manne called "String Safari 31" which features the tangles "Well" and "Moon Pie". You can watch the video HERE on YouTube. Below you can see the tile that I drew while following the video. When I drew it the second time, I decided to add color as you can see above.

Today's Tangle - 96X

The other night I watched THIS YouTube video by Heather Hartwick Gladden CZT about a tangle called "96X". I was pretty sure that I had never tried it before but it turned out that I had downloaded the pattern some time ago. "96X" is by Mina Hsiao CZT and you'll find her step-out HERE at TanglePatterns. Melinda Barlow CZT also has a video about this pattern HERE.

After drawing and coloring my tile, I thought that it needed a little something so I thickened the outer arcs of the motifs. I like the contrast that this added.

ZenAurora Technique

I read about this colorful technique HERE on Jem Miller's The Ragged Ray blog and Apple Lim CZT has a YouTube video about it HERE.

I really wanted to try it out but I don't have any brush pens. What I do have is a set of probably 30-year-old Crayola markers that were my son's when he was young. Surprisingly, they still work perfectly after so many years. Only the green marker had crystallized but I was able to use it in spite of that.

For this tile, I used the brown, yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue and green markers and I also mixed some of the colors. I didn't draw any particular tangles. I just scribbled whatever came to mind as I filled the space. I did have some issues with my white gel pens here and there but that's nothing new. At least they worked much better over the marker ink than they do over colored pencil. I used size 08 and 10 Gelly Roll pens.

I'm posting the same tile on two different colored backgrounds. I find it interesting how the eye is drawn to the part of the tile that coordinates with the background color.

Today's Tangle - Mooka

"Mooka" is an official Zentangle pattern by Maria Thomas. You'll find the step-out HERE in the Zentangle newsletter. Click HERE to watch a mesmerizing video of Maria drawing "Mooka".
