Today's Tangle - Amazing Spider

"Amazing Spider" is by Hennie Brouwer and she posted her pattern HERE on Facebook. The step-out is also available HERE at Pattern-Collections.  Ellen Wolters has a video tutorial HERE. This time I drew the pattern in the classic Zentangle style by using black ink and graphite only on a white tile.

Today's Tangle - Amazing Spider

"Amazing Spider" is by Hennie Brouwer and she posted her pattern HERE on Facebook.  The step-out is also available HERE at Pattern-Collections. Ellen Wolters has a video tutorial HERE.

While this pattern is pretty complicated, it's really not that hard to draw once you know how to draw a "spider". I found it easier to draw if I turned my tile around after drawing the first diagonal row of spiders. That way I can draw the spiders exactly the same way as in the first row rather than having to draw them upside down and risk getting confused.

I hadn't watched Ellen's video before drawing my tile and I see that she does some of the same things that I do. We both start with a box grid instead of a dot grid. We both also draw all of the dots and circles before drawing the "legs" of the spiders. Once our dots and circles are in place, Ellen and I do the rest differently but I like her method and will give it a try sometime.

Today's Tangle - Baleselation

"Baleselation" is by Maureen Stott CZT and the pattern is found HERE on her blog. I drew the design in black ink then added the stripes with Staedtler Triplus Fineliners in Delft Blue and Olive Green. I used matching colored pencils to fill in the rice shapes.

Today's Tangle - FOO

This time I drew "FOO" with black ink on a white tile. To perk it up a little I added some decorative details. The twisted ribbon look seems more obvious in black and white than on my colorful tile from yesterday which you can see HERE.

"FOO" is by Hannah Geddes CZT and her pattern is posted HERE on her website. UPDATE: You'll find the pattern HERE on Pinterest.

Today's Tangle - FOO

"FOO" is by Hannah Geddes CZT and her pattern is posted HERE on her website. My first "FOO" tile is very colorful and accented with metallic gold dots. Tomorrow I will show you the same pattern drawn with black ink and graphite on a white tile.

UPDATE: Hannah's pattern is posted HERE on Pinterest.

Today's Tangle - AYNAD

"AYNAD" is by Karin Guzzetta CZT and I found her pattern HERE at Musterquelle. This is such a quirky, cute little tangle and fun to draw. I'm sure that I will use this again sometime. The tiny dots that I added to the orbs make them look like eyes, don't they?

Today's Tangle - Coyote

"Coyote" is by Alexandra Westhoff CZT and her pattern is found HERE at Musterquelle. This is simple and fun to draw. Instead of shading with graphite, I used a turquoise colored pencil and blended it with odorless mineral spirits. I added a metallic silver dot in the center of each flower and also scattered some around in the background.

Today's Tangle - Choc-a-block

"Choc-a-block" is by Hannah Geddes CZT and her pattern is posted HERE on her website. This pattern is similar to one called "Demi" but it's not quite the same. Hannah's pattern has an extra border around each of the tiny center squares. You can see "Demi" HERE.

UPDATE: Hannah's step-out is now posted HERE on Pinterest.

Today's Tangle - Triple Y

"Triple Y" is by Hennie Brouwer and the pattern is found HERE at Pattern-Collections. Mimi has a video HERE and Ellen Wolters has one HERE.

I almost didn't post this tile because it came out so wonky. But, after giving it a pop of color, I think it looks kind of funky so I'm posting it even though the way that I drew the shapes makes them look like underpants.

Today's Tangle - Lucky Hearts

I loved drawing this pattern so much that I just had to draw another "Lucky Hearts" tile. This time I emphasized the Art Nouveau style of the design by softening the lines and adding rounding in the corners. Now I'm itching to give it another go and perhaps do something that has the look of stained glass.

"Lucky Hearts" is by Hennie Brouwer and you'll find her pattern HERE at Pattern-Collections. Ellen Wolters has a video tutorial about this pattern HERE

Today's Tangle - Woven Y's

I mentioned last Friday that I wanted to try drawing "Woven Y's" on a much smaller grid. I previously used a 12x12 grid and this time I used an 18x18 grid. You can see my other tile HERE. This one came out a little wonky but I'm pretty happy with it. This pattern really isn't all that difficult to draw and it took me much longer to color it than to draw it once I had my pencil grid set up.

"Woven Y's" is by Hennie Brouwer and you'll find the pattern HERE at Pattern-Collections. Ellen Wolters has a video HERE and Dawn Collins has one HERE

Honeycomb Khala Video Class

For someone's birthday, I recreated the "Honeycomb Khala" tile that I blogged about HERE. You can see my original tile below for comparison. As you can see, today's tile came out looking a little different than my first one but I think it turned out just as pretty. One main difference is the purple color that I used. I couldn't remember which colored pencils I had used on my first tile. I think I got the remaining colors the same or pretty close.

I drew this tile by following the "Honeycomb Khala" video class by Romi Marks on YouTube. You can watch her video HERE. I drew this on a 3.5 x 3.5-inch cream color tile with the corners cropped to make an octagon.

Today's Tangle - Zigmi

"Zigmi" is by Smita Toke and her pattern is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. "Zigmi" is one of three similar tangles called "Zigmi", "Zigmi Barreled" and "Zigmi Too". I have blogged about "Zigmi Barreled" and you can read about it HERE.

Today's Tangle - Woven Y's

"Woven Y's" is by Hennie Brouwer and you'll find the pattern HERE at Pattern-Collections. Ellen Wolters has a video HERE and Dawn Collins has one HERE

UPDATE: The Pattern-Collections website has shut down. Click HERE to view this pattern.

I would like to draw this much smaller sometime but doing so would require a very small grid. I used a 12x12 grid on today's tile and the design came out quite large. I'm thinking that a 16x16 or 18x18 grid would be necessary but I have a feeling that it might be too confusing drawing on such a tiny grid. This design is fairly simple to draw but the grid lines made it confusing at times because I had penciled in some of the design before going over the lines with a pen. My tile is 3.5 x 3.5 inches, by the way.

Today's Tangle - ToiToiToi

"ToiToiToi" is by Dörte Seupel-Kör and her pattern is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. I decided to draw it as a border on my tile so I had to tweak the corners a little to make it work. I also added an aura around the border to give it a bit more interest.

Classic Zentangle® - Crescent Moon, Dewd & Knightsbridge

I drew this tile for a prompt in the Today's Tangles: Keeping it Classic Facebook group.

These are the tangles that I used:

Crescent Moon - I blogged about "Crescent Moon" HERE.

Dewd - I blogged about "Dewd" HERE.

Knightsbridge - I blogged about "Knightsbridge" HERE.

Today's Tangle - Quiltz

"Quiltz" is by Kym Barlow and her pattern is HERE at TanglePatterns. I found two video tutorials HERE and HERE. Please excuse the odd shading on my tile. I used graphite but my scanner turned it a sort of peach color.

Today's Tangle - M-Line

"M-Line" is by Kasturi Das and her pattern is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. Dawn Collins has a video HERE. I added a touch of color and lots of metallic sepia Gelly Roll dots. The speckles on the background are flecks of color embedded in the card stock that I used.

Today's Tangle - Taiga

"Taiga" is by Tomàs Padrós and his pattern is posted HERE at TanglePatterns. My tile features the grid version except that I drew mine in a box grid instead of a dot grid as shown on the step-out. I thoroughly enjoyed drawing this and found it very satisfying. I thought it would be difficult to draw but it really wasn't.

The Tireless Tangler has a YouTube video about this tangle HERE and Tangle Dream has one HERE.

I drew "Taiga" on two more tiles to see how it would look on a white tile. I drew it a bit larger on the tile below but I think I prefer it smaller.

Below is a white tile with "Taiga" drawn the same size as the one at the top of this post. My favorite it still the one on the tan tile because I think that the shading looks nicer. The white water color paper that I used for the other two is kind of bumpy and the texture is noticeable in the shading on the two white tiles.

Today's Tangle - Madeline

"Madeline" is by Lila Holter and her pattern is found HERE at Pattern-Collections. Dawn Collins has a video about this pattern HERE. I drew mine in a box grid the same way that I would draw the tangle called "Bales". It's the double rice shapes that are added at the end that give this a different look than "Bales". I embellished mine with color and some metallic gold dots.
