2024 Desk Calendar for Zentangle Tiles

Last December I posted a printable calendar with a space to insert a standard Zentangle tile each month. I have updated the calendar for 2024 and you can download a free copy of it using the link below. For more information about it, read THIS post.

Print the PDF file at actual size. There will be two months on each of six 8.5x11 sheets of paper. There are lines on the pages that show where to crop them to fit in a picture frame. I use mounting squares to stick a tile to the calendar each month. They work great, they are reusable and they don't damage the tiles.

Video Tutorial - This Little Light

I followed the "This Little Light" video tutorial by Romi Marks which you can watch HERE. I drew this tile a bit differently than my previous one, which you can see HERE. I used a kraft paper tile and for some reason it didn't look right with shaded colors. So, I went with flat color instead except for the orange orb in the center. I also left some areas of the kraft paper showing through the design.

I followed THIS "Polynesian Star" video tutorial by Romi Marks. I adapted her design to fit on a square tile instead of a diamond-shaped tile.

Video Tutorial - This Little Light

I followed the "This Little Light" video tutorial by Romi Marks which you can watch HERE. I think that Romi used a 4.5x4.5 inch tile. I used a 3.5x3.5 inch tile for mine.

Video Tutorial - Hurry Flower Class

I had so much fun drawing my previous "Hurry Flower Class" tile that I decided to draw another one in a different color scheme. I also drew the Hurry Flower a little larger this time but still on a 3.5x3.5 inch tile.

Video Tutorial - MandalaNPA 083

For today's tile, I followed the "MandalaNPA 083" video by Nidhi Prakash which you can watch HERE. I started out drawing on a 6-inch tile like she does in the video but found it too unwieldy to work with so I switched to a Zendala size round tile. I really don't enjoy drawing at a larger scale. I used colored pencils and a metallic gold Gelly Roll pen to embellish my tile.

Video Tutorial - Hurry Flower Class

This is one of the earliest Tangledyogi videos and Romi posted it four years ago. I had never tried it until Monday and I'm sorry that I waited so long. I love how my tile turned out. Video Tutorial - Tangle Dream - ING Variation

This is one of the "ING" variations demonstrated in THIS Tangle Dream Video. You'll find it at 7:19 in the video. I found it very challenging to get some of the elements to fit as shown in the video. In the end, I adapted them to fit my drawing.

I followed THIS Tangle Dream video called "The Charm of the Round Tile". I colored my tile with a metallic blue colored pencil and a metallic gold gel pen.

Video Tutorial - Aqua Showgirl

For today's tile I followed THIS YouTube tutorial by Romi Marks called "Aqua Showgirl". The featured tangles are "Showgirl" by Vicki Bassett  and "H²O Lilly" by Lori Howe. I drew mine on a 3.5x3.5 inch tile and I also filled the corner squares with flowers. I just happen to have all of the colored pencils that Romi used in her video.

Today's Tangle - Leaded Glass Window with Up n Down

On October 3rd, I blogged HERE about this "Leaded Glass Window" string. Yesterday I drew another tile using the same string and I thought you might want to know how I made the string/template, which you can see below. I started with a 6x6 square grid in pencil so that the grid lines could be erased later. Next, I drew the "X's" in the top and bottom rows. After that, I connected the feet of the X's with lines to create vertical columns from top to bottom. If you like, you can aura the whole thing like I did.

I recently watched a video about a restored Victorian house which had some pretty leaded glass windows. I recreated the window design on my tile and filled it with an assortment of tangles. These are the featured tangles:

Eva Wu draws this fragment in her bullet journal at about 16:23 in THIS video. I divided my tile into four sections and drew four of the fragments. I colored my tile with colored pencils and a metallic gold gel pen.

Video Tutorial - Bijou Valentine

I followed THIS "Instagram Live Bijou Valentine" video by Jenny in Taiwan. While I did follow Jenny's video for the design on my tile, I didn't use a Bijou tile. Instead I used a regular size tile that I divided into four smaller "tiles". I used colored pencil and metallic gold gel ink to embellish my tile.

Video Tutorial - Magical Stars Day 30

I followed THIS "Magical Stars Day 30" YouTube video by Sandhya Manne. This is the fourth tile that I have drawn from her Magical Stars series. You can see my other three tiles HERE, HERE and HERE.

I spent quite a few hours working on this tile yesterday because I had to draw the "string" template manually using a compass and a straight edge. I made a couple of oopsies in the process. I somehow ended up with extra spaces near the center motif which I ended up filling with black. I also accidentally crossed a pen line in two places but you won't be able to tell where they are. That's because the white dots covered them very effectively when I did the coloring later. For the coloring, I used colored pencils, white gel pen and a metallic gold Gelly Roll.

Video Tutorial - Flux Mono-Tangle Butterfly

I followed THIS "Flux Mono-Tangle Butterfly" video tutorial by Lovelygiraffe (Asuka Odagami CZT). I decided not to add the butterfly to my tile because I really liked the design without it. I was a little confused while watching the video. At the beginning, she draws her tile very quickly and skips some of the steps. I eventually figured out that the tutorial actually begins at 1:57 on the progress bar.

I followed THIS video by Barbara Langston CZT. She is doing a video series on the original 102 official Zentangle patterns and this is the 6th video in the series. The featured tangles are "Msst", "Pokeleaf", "Pokeroot" and "Striping". Barbara mentions in the video that she is not sure if the tangle with the stripes is actually "Striping" or if it is a variation of it or some other pattern.

Video - Stained Glass Mandala

This mandala design is by Elena Babayants of My Flower Dream. Her video, which you can watch HERE, isn't a tutorial for drawing this mandala. It is actually her review of some water color pencils. She used this design to demonstrate how to use the pencils.

I had seen this "stained glass" technique online and had been wanting to try it out. Most of the examples that I had seen were by ZenLinea and you can see some of Anica's tiles HERE on Instagram. Elena's design is very pretty so I gave it a try. This was fun to draw but it took quite a bit longer to draw the "leading" than I thought it would. I don't have any water color pencils so I used regular colored pencils and odorless paint thinner to blend it. I will use this technique again sometime because I love how it turned out.

Just for fun, I used my graphics program to turn this into "real" stained glass.
