Classic Zentangle® - Mysealiam

I drew this tile for a prompt in the Today's Tangles: Keeping it Classic Facebook group. "Mysealiam" is a recent tangle from Zentangle HQ. I found the step-out in a private Facebook group but you can learn how to draw it by watching the Zentangle Project Pack 19 - Day 4 video HERE.

I followed THIS video tutorial by Nidhi Prakash. This time I used a 6-inch tile and a Christmas color scheme. I used the same colored pencils on today's tile but this one was cut from darker card stock than yesterday's. I have no idea why but the center star on this tile came out smaller than the star on yesterday's tile.

I followed THIS video tutorial by Nidhi Prakash. This time I used a 6-inch tile and a Christmas color scheme. The sections that look gray were colored with a clear glitter pen. I used red and green colored pencils as well as a metallic gold colored pencil for the borders.

This design is based on THIS video tutorial by Nidhi Prakash. I used a 4-inch tile so all of the details have been scaled down. Because of the small scale, I used an 005 Micron pen.

This design is based on THIS video tutorial by Nidhi Prakash. I've blogged about two other tiles from the same video HERE and HERE. This time instead of drawing the mandala on a 6x6 inch tile, I used a 4x4 inch tile. I had to shrink everything down so some things look a little different.

2023 Desk Calendar for Zentangle Tiles

This morning I was printing and cropping the pages for my 2023 desk calendar and thought maybe others would like to do something like this as well. I've designed a basic calendar that fits in a 5x7 inch picture frame. I use one that has removable corners as you can see in the photo above. Below are some examples of other kinds of frames that will also work well for calendars. Of course you can just use a regular picture from that has glass in it and store the unused pages in another place until they are needed. The frames in my photos can all store a whole year's worth of pages if they are printed on regular printer paper or thin card stock. I should note that I bought all of these picture frames several years ago and I have no idea where to buy them anymore.

I used to design and print my own desk calendars but ink is so terribly expensive and modern inkjet printers seem to have trouble printing on card stock. So, I've designed this calendar to use a minimum amount of printer ink and I can print the pages on regular inkjet paper so as not to put any stress on my printer. I simply tape one of my 3.5x3.5 inch drawing tiles in the blank space each month.

Print the PDF file at actual size. There will be two months on each of six 8.5x11 sheets of paper. There are lines on the pages that show where to crop them to fit in a picture frame.

With the frame below, a stack of calendar pages can be "snapped" into the front of the frame:

With the type of frame below, a stack of calendar pages are slid into the frame from the top.

After seeing a beautiful tile by Verena Bossert, I was inspired to try THIS "Huggins Star" Instagram video tutorial by Zen Linea aka Anica Gabrovec CZT. Anica only demonstrates how to draw the basic structure and leaves the coloring and embellishment choices up to the artist. I did borrow some ideas from Verena but added some of my own touches. Today's Tangles - Huggins & Wyfore

Both of today's featured tangles are official tangles from Zentangle. "Wyfore" is a brand new one that was recently released at the 2022 ZenAgain seminar. The step-out hasn't been released to the public yet but I saw a copy of it in one of the Facebook groups that I'm a member of. "Huggins" is an oldie but goody and the step-out is posted HERE at TanglePatterns. I drew my "Huggins" a little wonky to give my tile a more playful look.

Today's Tangle - 5C Aura

"5C Aura" is by Ina Sonnenmoser and you can find the pattern HERE on Pinterest. I found a couple of video tutorials HERE and HERE. My tweaked version of the pattern was inspired by Debbie Raaen's tile on Instagram which you can see HERE.

My tile is a bit larger than usual this time. I recently splurged on a pack of Strathmore Toned Tan Artist Tiles which are 4x4 inches square. This was my first time drawing on one of them and I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm not sure yet if I will continue to use them as is or if I will crop them down to 3.5x3.5 inches.
