Today's Tangle - Raffia
I enjoyed drawing "Raffia" so much once I got the hang of it that I wanted to draw another one. You can see my first "Raffia" tile in THIS post. This time I blackened in the spaces behind the pattern, drew more lines on each petal and added some metallic gold dots in the centers.
"Raffia" is by Neil Burley and his pattern is posted HERE on his blog.
I really like this pattern a lot - but I'm really resistant to drawing a pencil grid first, and it's very hard to keep it under control without that. I think it will be a tangle I admire in others rather than use myself!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it would be nearly impossible to draw it without a grid. It doesn't bother me at all to use grids and erasers, etc. They're just tools that make my tangling experience less stressful and more pleasurable. Having said that, whenever I draw my classic Zentangles for Keeping it Classic, I do follow the "rules". For everything else, I use whatever makes it more enjoyable for me.
DeleteHow about using a dot grid instead of a box grid? Even the Zentangle HQ folks use dot grids. Frankly, I don't see why that is any more "legal" than a box grid but they make the rules for those who strictly follow the Zentangle method.
Good points Linda. I think my resistance to the grid is less to do with the 'rules' - I break them sometimes when a piece needs a bit of extra penciling to get things right. I'm just a little impatient - I want to dive straight in with the pen. Most times I can wing it without the pencil lines but this one ends up a mess!
