Today's Tangle - Venetian Fans
"Venetian Fans" is an adaptation of the pattern called "Venetian" by Elaine Benfatto. Her step-out is posted HERE at Pattern-Collections. My version is also drawn in a box grid but my fans span four grid squares to make them easier to draw and in a slightly different manner. The main difference between Elaine's version and mine is that there are no gaps between my motifs which creates fan shapes. Hers look more like little bow ties than fans. I was inspired by Natasha Gardner's experiments with this design which she posted in the Pattern-Collections Facebook group. She starts with a very complex grid of circles but I thought it would be much simpler to draw using a regular box grid. Below you can see how I accomplished this.

Today's Tangle - Zendala Joy Day 23
For today's tiles, I followed THIS Day 23 video from the Zendala Joy video series by Sandhya Manne. Click HERE to see her entire Zendala Joy playlist.
I drew the tile below first as directed in the video except that I drew it on a 3.5x3.5 inch tile instead of a round one. I did the same with the tile above but this time I turned the design on the diagonal and filled the background in the center with black ink.

Today's Tangle - Zendala Joy Day 20
For today's tiles, I followed THIS Day 20 video from the Zendala Joy video series by Sandhya Manne. Click HERE to see her entire Zendala Joy playlist which will eventually consist of 31 videos for the month of October.
To be able to trace the string template onto my tiles, I had to use either white or off-white card stock. Most of my other card stock colors are too thick to be translucent when held up to the light. The problem with white card stock is that it tends to have a slick finish which isn't ideal for graphite shading.
After drawing the round tile above on white card stock cut to about the size of a Zendala tile, I wondered if I could shrink the design down small enough to fit on a standard 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" off-white tile. The off-white card stock that I have has a slightly rougher texture than the white so shading works much better. As you can see below, I was pretty much successful. The only part that I'm not entirely happy with is the border around the outer edge which had to be a little too thin to look as nice as it does at the larger size. All of the other elements were pretty easy to draw in the smaller size. I generally prefer to draw on small tiles so I might go ahead and use them when I try out some of the other Zendala Joy videos on Sandhya's channel.

Today's Tangle - Dervish
"Dervish" is by Elaine Benfatto and her step-out is posted HERE on flickr. Bunte Galerie has a video HERE. After drawing today's tile, I realized that I didn't draw it quite right. The outer petals should be pointed on the sides so that they create the "Dervish" look. So, I flipped my tile upside down and now it is a pretty Art Nouveau design. I will show you another tile tomorrow where I drew the pattern correctly.

Classic Zentangle® - Crazy 'Nzeppel, Well & Xircus
I drew this tile for a prompt in the Today's Tangles: Keeping it Classic Facebook group. I drew the tile below first and scanned it then later decided to add a border of "Well" around the outside edge as you can see above.
These are the tangles that I used:
Crazy 'Nzeppel - I blogged about "Crazy 'Nzepple" HERE.
Well - I blogged about "Well" HERE.
Xircus - I blogged about "Xircus" HERE.

Today's Tangle - Shim
"Shim" is from a video by Tangle Dream. She has two videos featuring variations of this pattern HERE and HERE. I drew mine a little differently than in the video. My fronds are a bit more Mooka-like and I simplified the scallops on the edge. I started with a spiral string then filled the background with graphite spirals after drawing the design.
